The Refinery

Tucked away in the small roads near Lavender MRT, The Refinery can be easily mistaken for one of those industrial shop houses.

But the dim lights, young crowds and hip music will assure you that you’ve reached the right place to just chill and enjoy good food and drinks.

It is meant to be a contemporary jap eatery with more variety of drinks than food. Well, it has to be that good because I’ve visited them 3 times over a span of 2 months. With different groups of friends, of course. #callmetherefineryambassador #shldhaveaskedforcommission

So the must haves that I ordered across the 3 outings are:
Salted egg onion rings. These were awesome! Fresh from the pan so it was crispy and the salted egg sauce was really nice. Perfect combination! But these onion rings must be finished while its hot else it’ll turn soggy.

Next “must order” is the seaweed truffle fries which came with wasabi mayo sauce. There’s more seaweed than truffle taste though. And it was a little too salty but then again you’re gonna hear from me that everything here is just a little too salty!

Finally for the last “must order” starters is The Refinery chicken wings. The marinade is pretty good and although the picture below doesn’t show it but the skin was actually quite crisp under all that sauce!

For carbs, the dry ramen is pretty good in filling you up. The pull pork was super yummy and noodles just nice for ladies who want to watch their calories (Oh come on, with such good food, there’s no way you can control!!) Oh and you can always order onsen egg to go with the ramen!

The beef don was pretty awesome as well. Tender, well marinated and fragrant. Definitely for those beef lovers out there.

Now comes the highlights! The skewers! For newbies, ordering the skewer platter will give you a decent range of meats. There are only two platters: one is the refinery sampler and the other is the refinery ultimate.

The Refinery sampler consists of chicken, shiok ba, shishamo and shitake mushrooms. The chicken is really tender while the shiok ba was not too bad but a little too tough and the skin was not crispy enough. I guess those dim sum restaurants like canto paradise do it better. The shishamo was pretty normal and shitake mushrooms abit too dry. But overall, just tasting this platter was quite enjoyable.

Oops. I don’t have a pic of the refinery ultimate which consists of waygu ribeye and shirt steaks. The beef was very very awesome! Tender, melts in your mouth, deliciously marinated and so flavourful! If you’re feeling rich, it’s a must order platter.

The Refinery has a huge assortment of drinks ranging from sodas to cocktails, beers to hard liqueur and so many flavours of sake to choose from.

Here’s my fave yuzu mojito.
